![]() ![]() with execption to some Roller Cam Follower Engines, the driven gear will allow for interchangeability. Regarding Ignition Distributor interchangeability (for the SBC of Std LH Rotation). ![]() I would prefer mechanical advance for your engine. However, the 1997 ignition system is an EST. That means that either Ignition system will offer approximately the same advance curve/limit as to help prevent Detonation. This means that either engine is prone to Detonation. Now, the newer vortec 5.7 engines with the elctronic distributors, also called the delco voyager, will that distributor work in the old non-vortec 5.7's? Im asking because i am thinking of getting an electronic distributor from a 1997 Volvo penta 350 that had the center bolt valve covers.but again, unsure if they will drop right in and work with the old style 350.? Are the distributor shaft gears the same as the old one? Same length? If it will work, will the advance be ok with this older engine or would it be too aggressive being it came from a later model engine.? Here is a pic of the one i want to use.Įither engine will be fitted with the GM Full Dished pistons. I have the old style 350 in my capri 1950, it has the old style perimeter bolt valve covers and points distributor. I'm having trouble finding a mechanic in this area that I trust could fix the problem. The timing appears to be right but I want to check it again - however, I'm wondering if the issue isn't related to the advance/power curve of the distributor. This problem has persisted through a carb rebuilt and two replacement carburetors (Quadrajet). It helps to mess with the secondaries on the carb while that is happening. If I let the throttle sit right where it starts to miss it usually stops missing after 30 seconds to a minute and will then run great as long as I don't drop below 2000 RPM. If I give it full throttle it will continue to miss and the RPMs won't go up (sits around 2300 RPM). I moved the distributor from the old 305, and the boat has similar issued to what it had before - right about when the secondaries open the engine starts missing. It never performed well so I replaced the engine with a 315HP 350. ![]() I purchased a 1985 with a 305 in it and it had what looked like a new Accel HEI distributor. ![]()
